STAGS PHILOSOPHY
|
The STAGS believe that College football is more than just x's and o's. Sure, we want our players to enjoy the game and to progress into senior football and beyond, but that's not enough. The STAGS see football as a vehicle that can be used to help build strong young men.
Through football, players gain transferable skills like self-discipline, drive, teamwork, and leadership. They develop a commitment to learning, a motivation to become the best that they can be.
Whether its revising for an exam, preparing for an interview, working towards a coursework deadline, or going the extra yard to gain better grades, football builds the character needed to become successful throughout life.
SHOWTIME
The STAGS know it's easy to get caught up in winning and losing games, and lose sight of the real purpose for playing the game at collegiate level. In 2002, Southampton bought into a philosophy called "SHOWTIME". It's become a way of life, where success is measured by the performance. Practices are now seen as rehearsals, preparation for the TIME when our players get to SHOW what they can do. We teach skills, hard work and discipline.
THE STAGS WAY
In 2005 the Southampton STAGS launch ‘The STAGS Way’, a written strategy on how the STAGS will develop as a Student Sports Organisation, ‘The Stags Way’ of getting the job done! The aim is to regain Southampton’s status as the Premier Football University in the UK through the successful completion of a series of small, easily achievable objectives.
The success of the STAGS program is testament to the hard work and dedication of the Management, coaches and players. However, much of the team success is down to support form the Athletic Unions and staff of Southampton University and Team Solent.
