Stags Give Greenwich A Mean Time
|
The Stags took their 8-0 regular season record & #1 ranking into the playoffs amid doubts that they were yet to be tested against alleged stronger opposition. There were many predictions of a #8 ranked Greenwich victory over the Stags.
Greenwich won the toss and elected to receive. The Stags defence shut down their offence immediately and forced a punt. The Stags failed to move the ball consistently from their own half however and had to punt. Greenwich were then forced to kick the 3rd punt of the game but this time #33 Tam Amachree returned it 50 yards for the opening score, it was his 3rd punt return in as many games. Ben Webb added the XP, 7-0. The other highlight of the 1st quarter was on the Stags punt team where #40 Ed Wilkes forced a fumble and #92 Ed Butcher recovered it.
The Stags rushing game woke up in the 2nd quarter with strong running from #5 Kai Passler culminating in a 2 yard touchdown strike. Amachree, ever the entertainer, then broke a 47 yard rush shrugging off tacklers on his way to the endzone. The defence gave up a few more yard than the first quarter but still stood firm when it counted and stopped any chance of a Greenwich score. The half ended with an outrageous drop by #11 Dom Olney walking into the endzone that would have stretched the lead beyond 19-0.
After Greenwich had few more players show up at half-time the game restarted as it had left off. The Stags defence, heavily under-rated, still maintained there strong form and high pressure getting numerous sacks and leaving Greenwich with no chance of a score. The Stags meanwhile looked to the air but the crosswind was causing havoc. Eventually the Stags scored again on the ground with #37 Ben Webb scoring from 19 yards out and then adding the XP. 26-0
The Stags didn’t let up in the 4th quarter as #1 Michal Katnik finally found the passing breakthrough hitting an uncovered Olney in the middle of the endzone from 10 yards out. The Stags weren’t finished though as the rookie offensive line bullied their way down the field for Passler to add another 2 yard score. Webb added both extra points and was then called upon to attempt a 34 yard field goal, which he nailed, straight down the middle. 43-0
Stags defensive MVP was deservedly #92 Ed Butcher with 4 tackles and 3 sacks for a loss of 18 yards, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 QB pressures. Leading tackler was #40 Ed Wilkes with 7, and a forced fumble and QB pressure.
The Stags running game was particularly strong with #33 Tam Amachree breaking into a rare double digits for carries, 17 for 162 yards and a TD, #5 Kai Passler did just as well though with 8 carries for 81 yards and 2 touchdown strikes. Amachree was the difference maker however getting over half the teams yards and took home the MVP.
Outstanding contribution of the day had to be #73 Sam Bennett, starting both ways and on every special team. He is one of the most dominating blockers on the Stags team and also one of the hardest hitting tacklers, as the Mariners QB found out on more than one occasion. The man just doesn’t get tired or hurt and motors away every play for all 4 quarters.

'Perfect' STAGS Back On Top
|
The undefeated Southampton STAGS faced the undefeated Staffordshire STALLIONS in the inaugural BUAFL Championship Game.
The STAGS had won the National Title 2 seasons previously in a year when they had set the points record and greatest final victory in college history, the 07/08 side had an offence just as potent and a defence that conceded only 4 touchdowns all season.
They faced a Staffordshire STALLIONS side led by the rushing attack of #34 Ed Goka, top in rushing yards and touchdowns league-wide.

Total Eclipse Of The Herts (B Tyler)
|
The Southern Conference Final saw the undefeated STAGS host the undefeated HURRICANES in what promised to be the best game in the South this season.
With free-scoring offences and consistently mean but understated defences, there was little to choose between them going into the game.
The winner will go on for a shot at the inaugral BUAFL National Championship Title, in the first BUAFL National Championship Game [College Bowl XXII in old money|Ed] taking on the Northern Conference Champions, Staffordshire STALLIONS.

A Home Away From Home
|
The weather for the game was forecasted to be appalling and from the pre-game warm-ups it appeared as though both sides were in for a long, cold wet day. Just before kick-off the skies began to clear and the wind dropped substantially allowing a decent football game to be played on the Tsunami’s very own 3G Field... 45-0 to the STAGS.

Water, Water Everywhere...
|
It was apparent from the opening kick-off that weather was going to play a huge part in this contest. Heavy rain mixed with cold winds made for tricky conditions for both offences.
The Stags... didn’t allow the weather to dampen their spirits... and took the tie... 21-0.
