Party Poppers or Poopers?
|
 Superbowl Sunday! Yet the Stags had a tough game against the Brighton Tsunami to get through before any party could begin.
The Tsunami received the ball on the kick-off and the Stags defence immediately asserted their dominance forcing an early punt that #80 Marcin Jankowski returned to the 40. The Stags offence went deep early on but failed to connect and were forced to punt themselves. The next time the offence received the ball they went more conservative, and it paid off with #22 Chevy Green rumbling over from 4 yards out to open the scoring. #37 Ben Webb tacked on the extra point. 7-0
The second quarter, the Stags defence was still stifling the Brighton offence and the Stags offence was moving the ball but struggling in some areas. #33 Tam Amachree got his first touchdown of the day with a pass from #1 Michal Katnik, shortly followed by a 33 yard fumble recovery by #24 Tom ‘Generic’ Smith, Webb had pushed the first kick wide but hit the second one. Amachree added another score before the half with a 12 yard dash and the Stags went into the changing room leading 26-0.
The Stags offence felt the need to step up a gear in the 3rd quarter and they began well with Amachree rushing in from 26 yards out to get his 3rd touchdown of the day. The defence added another score as #4 AJ Woolley shot through the Brighton line to block a punt which bobbled into the Tsunami endzone, but went out of bounds just before Woolley could dive on it for the touchdown, having to settle for a safety. The Stags passing game finally came to life when stud receiver #88 Dan Benning caught a monster 40 yard pass from Katnik, and twisted and turned his way into the end zone through the Brighton defenders for the score. Amachree then added his 4th TD of the day with a 2 yard rush. All XPs and 2XPs failed, leaving the score at 46-0 heading into the 4th quarter.
The Stags needed 6 more points to have 300 for the season and they got them in style as, on the first play of the drive, Amachree rushed left and the cut back across the Brighton linebackers to break away for a 66 yard score, his 5th of the day. #21 Cedric Perret rounded off the scoring with a 15 yard rush after a drive where he had powered through for practically every first down.
The Stags offence almost all had a good day with the O-Line creating huge holes in the Brighton defence with Perret, Green and #5 Kai Passler taking good advantage of this, but no-one came close to #33 Tam Amachree for Offensive MVP honours, gaining 200+ yards on 12 carries, and snatching 5 TDs (not to mention his trademark game-stopping hits on kickoff).
The defence limited Brighton to 12 yards on 42 plays and despite MVP peromances from #24 Tom Smith (3 tackles, FR touchdown), #40 Ed Wilkes (7 tackles) and #4 AJ Woolley (7 tackles, 2 FF, blocked punt, safety) the award went to #92 Ed Butcher whose excellent outside contain combined with strong pressure on the QB made him stand out.

'Perfect' STAGS Back On Top
|
The undefeated Southampton STAGS faced the undefeated Staffordshire STALLIONS in the inaugural BUAFL Championship Game.
The STAGS had won the National Title 2 seasons previously in a year when they had set the points record and greatest final victory in college history, the 07/08 side had an offence just as potent and a defence that conceded only 4 touchdowns all season.
They faced a Staffordshire STALLIONS side led by the rushing attack of #34 Ed Goka, top in rushing yards and touchdowns league-wide.

Total Eclipse Of The Herts (B Tyler)
|
The Southern Conference Final saw the undefeated STAGS host the undefeated HURRICANES in what promised to be the best game in the South this season.
With free-scoring offences and consistently mean but understated defences, there was little to choose between them going into the game.
The winner will go on for a shot at the inaugral BUAFL National Championship Title, in the first BUAFL National Championship Game [College Bowl XXII in old money|Ed] taking on the Northern Conference Champions, Staffordshire STALLIONS.

 The Southampton Stags ran out to a 54-20 victory over the Staffordshire Stallions to win the BUAFL National Championship game and record an undefeated season. The Stags dominated on both sides of the ball to win their second title in three years.
