The third outing of the 2007/08 season for the STAGS sees them at home for the first and only time before the mid-season break. They are hosting the Royal Holloway VIKINGS at the Cage.
This is potentially the biggest game in the BUAFL South-Southern Division, as both teams come into this game undefeated with the STAGS currently edging the race on points. If current form continues, this could be the decisive match-up in the Division Title Race as they only face each other the once this regular season.
Southampton will be hoping the snorkels and flippers will not be needed for the game after a torrid, but victorious (21-0) bout at Portsmouth in week 04. The VIKINGS return to the South-Southern Division after a year absence and have made a strong statement - their best ever season – currently sitting at 3-0 having taken the sting out of Surrey (0-13), jousted easily through Reading (45-0) and rode the wave vs Brighton (6-13).
These two teams have only met the once, back in 2005/06, the STAGS last Championship year. It was the STAGS’ first game of the campaign and Royal Holloway’s second game ever – having narrowly missed out on a debut win (22-20).
STAGS started slowly, but the Defense put three Safeties and a TD from a stripped ball on the board in the first half, which ended 0-26 in the STAGS favour, largely due to the VIKINGS Defense’s fighting spirit.
Having found their feet in the new season, the STAGS stepped it up in the 2nd half and with strong running from current RB Tam Amachree posted another 50 points to get their Championship Charge underway in style.
The score didn’t reflect how well the VIKINGS played, and they never let their heads drop much to their credit – friends were made that day.
With only a handful of players remaining from that first match-up the STAGS will be looking to stake their claim for the South-Southern Title. The offense will hoping for a clear day to really explore the playbook. The defense will be looking to add another clean sheet by shutting down the VIKINGS’ very real running threat.
Holloway will be hoping to make their presence felt and redress the balance in the Head-to-Head. This season the only common opponent is the STINGERS – this has the STAGS with a 47-point advantage going into the game. The STAGS certainly won’t be taking the challenge lightly and both teams know that the past is no guide to the future.
At the end of the day, who will take the lead in the South-Southern Title Race? Will it be another land-slide or squeaky-bum time? Most importantly, will Football be the winner?
Find out for yourself by coming along and supporting the STAGS and VIKINGS at
The Cage, Wide Lane, Southampton SO50 5PE on Sunday 25th November, Kick Off at 2.30pm.

'Perfect' STAGS Back On Top
|
The undefeated Southampton STAGS faced the undefeated Staffordshire STALLIONS in the inaugural BUAFL Championship Game.
The STAGS had won the National Title 2 seasons previously in a year when they had set the points record and greatest final victory in college history, the 07/08 side had an offence just as potent and a defence that conceded only 4 touchdowns all season.
They faced a Staffordshire STALLIONS side led by the rushing attack of #34 Ed Goka, top in rushing yards and touchdowns league-wide.

Total Eclipse Of The Herts (B Tyler)
|
The Southern Conference Final saw the undefeated STAGS host the undefeated HURRICANES in what promised to be the best game in the South this season.
With free-scoring offences and consistently mean but understated defences, there was little to choose between them going into the game.
The winner will go on for a shot at the inaugral BUAFL National Championship Title, in the first BUAFL National Championship Game [College Bowl XXII in old money|Ed] taking on the Northern Conference Champions, Staffordshire STALLIONS.

Stags Give Greenwich A Mean Time
|
The Stags took their 8-0 regular season record & #1 ranking into the playoffs amid doubts that they were yet to be tested against alleged stronger opposition. There were many predictions of a #8 ranked Greenwich victory over the Stags.
Would the tough Greenwich defense prove too much for the record scoring Stags?

A Little Bit Of History

A Home Away From Home
|
The weather for the game was forecasted to be appalling and from the pre-game warm-ups it appeared as though both sides were in for a long, cold wet day. Just before kick-off the skies began to clear and the wind dropped substantially allowing a decent football game to be played on the Tsunami’s very own 3G Field... 45-0 to the STAGS.

Water, Water Everywhere...
|
It was apparent from the opening kick-off that weather was going to play a huge part in this contest. Heavy rain mixed with cold winds made for tricky conditions for both offences.
The Stags... didn’t allow the weather to dampen their spirits... and took the tie... 21-0.
