Surrey Seems To Be The Hardest Word (E John)
|
|
The STAGS kicked off their first BUAFL season in style with a confident victory over their divisional rivals the Surrey STINGERS.
After a decent return on the opening kick-off the Stags moved the ball down the field 56 yards with a mix of run and pass which culminated in a Tam Amachree rushing touchdown from 18 yards out. The snap was bad on the extra point and the Stags had to be content with a 6-0 lead. The defence came out strong and immediately made an impact, forcing and recovering a fumble. The Stags offence took advantage of this and were celebrating a touchdown soon after as QB Nic Bee failed to make the hand-off to RB Chevy Green but then followed Green’s blocking all the way to the endzone, Ben Webb tacked on the XP and the Stags led 13-0.
The Surrey offence struggled to get started but the Stags were rolling, the second quarter was much of the same with the Stags scoring on a rush by Michal Katnik, and a catch from Marcin Jankowski from Nic Bee (both XP’s good). The Stingers also got their longest play of the day in a 27 yard catch from the wing back #8.
Leading 27-0 at the half the Stags knew they could step up a gear and they did so, with Michal Katnik throwing a 24 yard strike to the Stags’ best receiver of the game, Dan Benning (XP miss). Tam Amachree scored his second TD of the day on one of his 5 carries from 9 yards out to stretch the lead, with Webb adding another point. Katnik then hit Benning again for a 31 yard touchdown and Ben Webb stretched the lead to 47.
In the 4th, Katnik struck gold again as he hit a 53 yard completion to Ben Webb on his final series of the game before being replaced by an entire rookie offence. The XP snap was again bad and the score was 53-0. The rookie offence played well with strong running by Aaron Yamoah, Jon Fowell and Cedric Perret, with a couple of good passes by Ben Hall, unfortunately penalties stopped any major progress. The final score of the game came from the Stags defence as Iain “Malibu” Anderson picked off an errant pass after pressure from Sam Bennett, and returned it 47 yards for the TD. Webb rounded the score up to 60 and the game was complete.
The Stingers fought hard all game and never gave up but struggled offensively as they gained only 26 yards from 40 plays. The Stags wish them the best of luck for next weeks game against Reading.

'Perfect' STAGS Back On Top
|
 The undefeated Southampton STAGS faced the undefeated Staffordshire STALLIONS in the inaugural BUAFL Championship Game.
The STAGS had won the National Title 2 seasons previously in a year when they had set the points record and greatest final victory in college history, the 07/08 side had an offence just as potent and a defence that conceded only 4 touchdowns all season.
They faced a Staffordshire STALLIONS side led by the rushing attack of #34 Ed Goka, top in rushing yards and touchdowns league-wide.

Total Eclipse Of The Herts (B Tyler)

The Southern Conference Final saw the undefeated STAGS host the undefeated HURRICANES in what promised to be the best game in the South this season.
With free-scoring offences and consistently mean but understated defences, there was little to choose between them going into the game.
The winner will go on for a shot at the inaugral BUAFL National Championship Title, in the first BUAFL National Championship Game [College Bowl XXII in old money|Ed] taking on the Northern Conference Champions, Staffordshire STALLIONS.
