STAGS STAMPEDE THEIR WAY TO COLLEGE BOWL XX FINAL
|

| SOUTHAMPTON STAGS American Football Team have reached College Bowl XX. The team made up of students from Southampton University and Southampton Solent University, have reached the BCAFL final for the first time in 14 years. They face Northern Conference Champions UT Cougars at the Butts Arena in Coventry on Sunday.
The STAGS beat last year's winners Birmingham 19-12 in the quarter-finals and defeated Cardiff 19-6 in last Sunday's semi-final (Southern Conference Championship.) Finishing second in their division meant they have had the disadvantage of playing every game in the playoffs away from home. The STAGS are ranked fifth in the south with Quarterback Ted Baynham being selected for Great Britain's American Football team.
Club Captain Sam Bennett said: "We are really looking forward to the final after being quarter- and semi-finallists in the last few years."
The Vixen Cheerleaders are also travelling to Coventry and hope to spur the boys on in victory. As well as the squad performing a halftime routine, five of them will perform an all-star routine with other cheerleaders from accross the country before the 2pm kick off.
President of the Vixens Beth Nixon said: "We hope to cheer the STAGS to victory." |
