Despite
the FOURTH 6-2 finish in FOUR seasons and surrendering the Southern Division Title
to the Surrey STINGERS, the had a record breaking season, including 603
points scored (avg over 50pts per game). |
| Progression
through the playoffs - all on the road - was notable for the defeat of defending Champions
Birmingham LIONS in the Southern Conference Semi-final. |
The
season finished in style with a resounding 79-8 victory over University
of Teeside COUGARS for the '
3rd National Championship - by the largest winning margin
in a College Bowl (bettering the
own record 53 points in CBVI). |
Following the College
Bowl XX victory, the played
an International Game for the first time, travelling to Eire
to defeat the Irish National Team 33-0. |

STAGS ANNOUNCE COACHING STAFF FOR 2005/06 SEASON
|
The Southampton STAGS have recruited the most experienced coaching staff in UK, College football, with a combined total of 112 years experience and 17 National Championships at youth, adult and College levels. The Staff includes the Great Britain Head Coach, Southern All-Stars Head Coach and two Assistant Great Britain Coaches.
GRAHAM THORPE The Head Coach of Great Britain, Graham joined the STAGS in 2002, bringing over 20 years experience to Southampton. With 3 National Championships and 2 'Coach-of-the-year' awards, Graham's experience at Domestic and International level has been instrumental in the dramatic improvement of the STAGS in the last three years.
MICK HOGAN Mick has been with the STAGS since 1991, helping Southampton to back-to-back BCAFL National Championships. Mick was appointed Southern All-Stars' Head Coach in 2004 & 2005 and Director of Team Development in 2005. In 2004 Mick was appointed as an Assistant Coach for Great Britain. Coach Hogan has won Five Division Trophies and gaining University Club Colours for his dedication to University Sports.
DESMOND LYDE With 17 years experience at both Youth and Adult level, Des joined the Southampton in 2002 and has played a major role in the STAGS Success story. A Great Britain Assistant Coach, Des has won five National Championships.
MARK BIRCHALL New to University Football, Mark joined the STAGS in 2004 following a playing career that spanned two decades. Winner of two Championships, Mark was rewarded in first year with the STAGS, by being selected to the Southern All-Stars' Coaching Staff.
SIMON CUTTS Simon begrudgingly hung-up his shoulder pads in 2004 and joined the STAGS as full-time Coach. With 20 years experience and 4 National Championships, Coach Cutts has made a major impact in his first season in University Football
ALAN LEAR A Coach with 10 years experience at both junior and youth level, Coach Lear joined the STAGS in 2004. Alan's experience, patience and teaching skills were vital in 2004, working with the team to develop several youth first year players.
BENJAMIN WYTHE Former STAGS player, Coach and Club President, Ben re-joined the STAGS in 2004, playing an important part in the Southern Division Title.
