In 2004/05 it was a similar story, as the STAGS won the Southern Division Title, only to be defeated in the Conference Semi-finals by Hertfordshire, despite coming closest to defeating the eventual College Bowl Winners Birmingham Lions.

BIG GAME A DOUBLE SUCCESS

BIG GAME A DOUBLE SUCCESS

A SOUTHAMPTON American Football team scored a double victory when they beat their league rivals.

Southampton STAGS - from Southampton University and Institute - trounced the Oxford Cavaliers - from Oxford University - 27-6 to keep alive their play-off hopes.

They also raised £400 for the Lisa Wilson Scholarship fund, which gives financial grants to students at the Institute, in memory of Lisa, who tragically died in a car crash shortly after graduating.

Stags player Gus McKechnie said: "It is a great win for us.
"Now we have got to focus on winning the next two games to make sure we get into the play-offs.
"It is nice that we could raise some money for such a good cause as well."

The game, at Wellington Sports Ground, Eastleigh, kicked off after former Saints player Mark Dennis tossed the coin.		BIG GAME A DOUBLE SUCCESS
